PV ROME MEDITERRANEAN 2009
30 September to 3 October 2009

3rd International Exhibition on Photovoltaic Technologies for the Mediterranean.

Following the great success of the previous edition, the PV expo will be held at Rome Fair Centre and will be completely dedicated to the development of photovoltaics in the Mediterranean.
PV ROME MEDITERRANEAN 2009 will take place as part of ZEROEMISSION ROME 2009 and alongside other specialized exhibitions dedicated to renewable energies (EOLICA EXPO, AGRIENERGY EXPO, CSP EXPO-SOLARTECH etc.).
The aim of PV ROME MEDITERRANEAN 2009 is to present and promote the photovoltaic technologies, equipment and products with a particular emphasis on solutions for use across the whole Mediterranean basin.
For the second time, at ZEROEMISSION ROME 2009 a Partner Country will be present as "Mediterranean Area Partner": the chosen Partner Country is Algeria.

Excellent results for an exhibition representing a sector that is bucking the trend, is not suffering the current downturn and may indeed play an important role in making Italy more competitive. The next event will be held over three days.

PV Rome Mediterranean
2008, the international exhibition on photovoltaic technology for the Mediterranean, held from 1 to the 4 October at the Rome exhibition center, posted significant results, confirming its role as the reference trade show in this sector.

Numerous visitors were in attendance and, out of the more than 18,000 who took part in ZeroEmission Rome 2008, around 1,000 attended the specialist conferences at PV Rome Mediterranean. The event covered a surface area of 9,000 square meters and saw the participation of 117 exhibitors.

PV Rome Mediterranean represents a rapidly growing sector. The European record is held by Germany, followed by Spain and Italy. Indeed in Italy last year alone 63 MW of photovoltaic systems were installed, compared to the total of around 40 MW over the whole of the previous 20 years.

"We are especially proud of the results achieved this year", commented Marco Pinetti, director of PV Rome Mediterranean 2008. "Even in such an unfavorable economic climate, the event showed very significant growth, proving the vitality of a sector that is immune to the crisis".

"We are very satisfied with this year’s PV Rome Mediterranean and, in particular, with the quality of the visitors", declared Gert Gremes, president of GIFI, the Italian Photovoltaic Business Group. "Despite the proliferation of competing exhibitions, the show represents the reference point for the south-south in an increasingly mature sector".

"From our standpoint, the photovoltaic industry is extremely dynamic, a fact that has been reflected at this event", commented Marco Pigni, director of APER, the Renewable Energy Manufacturers Association. "The Italian industry finally looks promising and is growing. Yet for this trend to remain constant and create development, businesses must have legislative certainties".

"In this period of strong and intense market growth, it is very important for us in the photovoltaic industry to be able to count on places where supply and demand come together, as well as opportunities for more detailed discussion on the many topics involved, such as at the conferences, which bring the main players together around the same table", stated Gianni Chianetta, president of Assosolare, the National Photovoltaic Industry Association. "As an association we feel that the exhibitions in Italy need to become more specialized and high level, and represent a reference point for the investors who are currently paying careful attention to the Italian market. According to the Spanish economic-financial daily Expansion, Italy will be the new focal point of the photovoltaic boom, following the cuts in incentives to the Spanish industry, and may become one of the preferred destinations in a possible process of delocalization. In 2009 forecasts predict the installation of 250 MW, with sales of 1200 million euro and, in 2010, the total may reach between 350 and 500 MW. In the future, however, we expect these numbers to change, as the large power stations that take longer to approve will go on stream. Numbers that, moreover, may become even more significant if we could overcome the bureaucratic barriers that still put a brake on the market".

The event took place as part of ZeroEmission Rome 2008 inside the "Sun" hall, which also hosted CSP Expo 2008, the first international exhibition on concentrating solar power technology.

Overall, ZeroEmission Rome 2008 included seven events held on an exhibition surface area of 25,000 square meters.

Further information on the event is available at www.zeroemission.eu and on Zeroemission.Tv, the real-time Web TV channel with more than 1,200 unique visits per day, showing a series of interviews conducted during the exhibition.

PV Rome Mediterranean will return in 2009, again at the Rome exhibition center, from 30 September to 2 October. To respond to the needs of exhibitors, and ensure increasingly high-caliber attendance, the event will in fact last three days and will end on Friday.
