Bridge to India (New Delhi, India) estimates that the nation has commissioned 546 MW of solar photovoltaics (PV) and concentrating solar thermal power (CSP) through various programs.

The company has published a map showing the breakdown by state and by program. The state of Gujarat leads the nation with 365 MW of PV commissioned, and its Gujarat Solar Energy Policy has been responsible for the largest single portion of solar capacity installed to date.

The map is part of Bridge to India's "India Solar Compass (April 2012)". The report includes a detailed policy analysis of both the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) and state-level policies, financing analysis and supply analysis, as well as a market outlook for coming quarters.

The vast majority of solar plants commissioned in India to date use PV technology, with the company reporting only 5.5 MW of CSP commissioned in the states of Rajasthan and Haryana.

After Gujarat, Rajasthan comes in second among Indian states, with 97 MW of PV and 2.5 MW of CSP installed, roughly half of which was installed under the JNNSM Batch 1, Phase 1. Maharashtra follows at a distant third with 18.2 MW of PV installed, with many Indian states commissioning 8 MW or less of solar technologies.
